This is a nearly destroyed woman’s riveting, page-turning story of re-creation out of chaos and darkness, a near-mythic struggle with the nearly invincible forces of the medical and insurance establishment. The author experiences re-generation, not overnight, but one breath, one step, one day at a time. Angels in the guise of mortals appear to walk with her through the valley of the shadow of death and, what’s worse, legal proceedings. Through it all she discovers that life is hard—sometimes impossibly hard—but grace abounds. Behold, life is good. Not perfect. But pretty darn good, after all.

After years of struggle, Cynthia finally completed her master’s degree at SAIS.  At the graduation, her classmates gave her a standing ovation.  After you read this book, you will understand why they did.  Cynthia’s story is an inspirational demonstration of what courage, determination and sheer willpower can accomplish in the face of seemingly life-destroying injuries.  There is a message here for the families and care-givers of other victims of traumatic brain injury – don’t underestimate what can be accomplished with will and support.  And for those of us fortunate not to have suffered what Cynthia has, the message is to be grateful for our good fortune and to work as hard as Cynthia has to make use of the abilities we have been given.

Searching for the Open Door” exposes the dirty little secrets of medical malpractice.  Cynthia Paddock Doroghazi lets the malpractice victim know what to expect in a lawsuit and she lets malpractice lawyers know what their clients are thinking.  She has lived the tale and boldly provides insight into the behind-the-scene process of a modern day malpractice lawsuit.  She demonstrates, without a lot of legal jargon, the need to preserve the American common law malpractice lawsuit system.

All of us face challenges and barriers in life.  We are only as big as the smallest thing it takes to divert us from our calling.  Through Cynthia's struggles, we can all learn how to move toward our own destiny.

John Lennon once wrote, “The price of anything is the amount of life you exchange for it”.  On one level, then, this book is priceless…priceless for the toll that Ms. Paddock’s brain injury extracted from her.  On the other hand, this book would never have been written without that expense.  And as a clinician that has become all too familiar with the tragedy of traumatic brain injury (TBI), it is an absolute delight to see someone of Ms. Paddock’s character rise above it all to pass on a message of hope and inspiration.  There is life after a TBI and in reading her account of the long road back, I couldn’t put the book down.

When I began to read Searching for the Open Door by Cynthia Paddock Doroghazi, I could not put the book down! I thought I would quickly flip through the pages, learn a little bit and get back to work.  But I was so impressed with the way the author led me through the search that I had to read on.

Cynthia is a walking miracle, and an amazing example of how proper medical care can play a part in one’s recovery.  Her book sends a strong message to all of our doctors, nurses and therapists, reminding them how much the work they do every day makes an impact on people’s lives.

Medical professionals alone cannot heal a person. It takes a unique combination of the right treatment, at the right time, from the right place, to a willing patient, along with blessings from above. Cynthia was lucky to have all of these things, working together, to help her recover from this tragic injury.

I encourage you to take the journey that Searching for the Open Door offers. You will be captivated, amazed, humbled, and gain a new appreciation for how precious every day is.  Nobody is promised tomorrow, but we can certainly follow our author’s lead, and live each and every day with a smile!

This book will be a great inspiration to anyone who has been dealt a raw hand by life, by showing them what faith and perseverance can accomplish.  It is also a gripping story of one young woman's struggle with a big and impersonal medical bureaucracy that can destroy lives as well as save them.

Ms. Doroghazi’s book is outstanding.  To hear her story in informal conversation is one thing.  To read it in its entirety, as presented in this book, is extraordinary.  Ms. Doroghazi’s experience will be equally beneficial to people facing their own ordeals, as well as those who have no appreciation for how life can change in an instant.
